Today we met with the transplant team at Children’s Medical
to discuss next steps and have the opportunity to ask a lot of questions.
We are waiting on one Fanconi Anemia test and the results from skin biopsy to come back as they are still trying to diagnose the cause of the bone marrow failure, and have a better idea of which type of chemo he will receive, etc.
Unfortunately, regardless of the cause, the outcome is still the same. We are still looking for a 9 to 10 point match for his bone marrow transplant.
Once they have a match, there are additional tests that need to be conducted on the potential donors, and Brynnik will need to undergo a week of chemotherapy before they will introduce the new bone marrow or stem cells.
We covered several potential outcomes, best scenario situations, worst case scenarios, and overall expectations. It was a heartbreaking conversation. Sitting with your 9-year old son, in a small room with doctors discussing survival rates and percentages is a parents worse nightmare. I’m focusing my strength on my son, who I am trying to keep positive through all of this. And I am praying constantly to God to provide me with the strength I need for Brynnik at this time.
Thank you all for your love and support to Brynnik and our "family" during this time. My sweet little man has a tough road ahead of him, and we deeply appreciate all your love, kindness and support.
